Czech industrial producer prices up at 2.9% y/y in January

Industrial producer prices in the Czech Republic rose by 2.9% year-on-year in January, according to the data released by the Czech Statistics Office on February 25. Compared to December 2018, the rise in prices in industry and services accelerated by half a percentage point. Rising agricultural producer prices accelerated by 1% in January from 3.4% in December.

“Prices went up particularly in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning (+7.2%), thereof electricity, transmission and distribution services (+9.3%), it was, as in the case of the month-on-month comparison, the highest price increasing since January 2009. Prices increased in basic metals, fabricated metal products (+3.4%) and rubber and plastic products, other non-metallic mineral products (+3.6%), thereof especially articles of concrete, cement and plaster (+7.2%),” the Office reported.

Prices increased also in other sectors, including agricultural production by 4.4%, construction work by 4% and market services for businesses by 2.7%. The only exceptions were construction works where January prices were the same as in December.
