Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko is winning back some of the ground he lost in Ukraine’s presidential election polls and is back in the top three, according to the latest results.

Poroshenko is still behind former two-time premier minister Yulia Tymoshenko, who was the first politician in the war-torn country to officially announce a bid in the 2019 presidential elections, but is in with a good chance of meeting her in the second round as Tymoshenko is nowhere near the 50% she would need to take the election race in the first round.

7.1% of those who said they would definitely take part in the elections in March 2019 will support Poroshenko, according to a survey conducted jointly by Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS), the Razumkov Center and the Socis Center.

The survey was conducted from August 30 to September 9, 2018. The survey was conducted on all territories controlled by the Ukrainian authorities. The sample is representative by sex, age, region and type of settlement. A total of 10,005 people were interviewed.

Meanwhile, according to a survey conducted by the Social Monitoring Center and the Oleksandr Yaramenko Ukrainian Institute for Sociological Research, if the elections were held next Sunday, 18% of Ukrainians who are ready to vote and have chosen a candidate (13% of all respondents) would cast ballots for Tymoshenko.

Some 10.4% of those polled who are planning to go to the elections and have chosen a candidate (7.5% among all respondents) are ready to vote for Civil Position Party leader Anatoliy Hrytsenko, leaving Poroshenko in third place with 9.9% (7.1%), according to Interfax news agency.

The survey was conducted by a personal interview method on September 11-18, 2018. Some 2,007 people aged over 18 in the 24 regions of the country took part. The sampling error is 1.34%-2.24%.
