Average temperatures are expected to rise by up to 6 degrees Celsius in Slovenia by the end of the century due to climate change caused by greenhouse gas emissions, according to projections from the Slovenian Environment Agency. At the same time, precipitation is also projected to go up, with the number of extreme weather events significantly increasing.

The average temperature is projected to rise by 1.3 degrees by the end of century under the most optimistic scenario and by 6 degrees under the most pessimistic.

Precipitation is expected to increase after they dropped by about a tenth in the past 50 years. Under a moderately optimistic scenario, precipitation should increase by 20% by the end of the century. Under the pessimistic scenario, winter precipitations should rise by 40% by the middle of the century and by up to 60% by the end of the century.

According to the Environment Agency, the climate changes can impact any aspect of life and require adaptation.

While making the projections, the agency considered three scenarios of climate change compared to the reference years 1981-2010.
