Chinese manufacturing hub Chongqing records booming vehicle exports to Central Asia

Major Chinese manufacturing hub Chongqing exported 4,119 vehicles to the five Central Asian nations of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan during January to April, marking volume and value growth of 17.8-fold and 39.6-fold, respectively, year on year, according to the city administration.

Chongqing-based SAIC Hongyan, a heavy vehicle manufacturer, exported 100 smart heavy trucks to Kazakhstan and other Central Asian nations, it added.

On May 14, a train, filled to capacity with 256 Chongqing-manufactured automobiles, set off from Chongqing Yuzui Freight Station, for Kazakhstan via Horgos Port in Xinjiang.

The shipment was dispatched on a JSQ special train design that allows vehicles to be driven directly into compartments sans the need for brackets, enabling each container to accommodate nine to 10 cars, creating an estimated 15% reduction in operating costs per vehicle, the city municipality noted.

Between January and April, Chongqing's exports to Central Asia soared to 850mn yuan (around $120.2mn), marking a staggering 1.7-fold y/y gain, it also said.

Exports to Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan, were worth 530mn, 280mn and 30mn yuan, up 1.6 times, 1.9 times and 9.3 times, y/y, respectively, it said.
