Kosovo’s outgoing PM arrives in The Hague for questioning

By bne IntelliNews July 23, 2019

Kosovan outgoing Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj has arrived in The Hague to face questioning at a war crimes court in the Dutch city, he said on July 23.

Haradinaj, a former commander of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA), a paramilitary organisation that sought the separation of Kosovo from Yugoslavia during the 1998-89 war, resigned on July 19 after being summoned to appear for questioning as a suspect by The Hague-based war crime court investigating crimes committed by the KLA against Serbs during the war of independence.

"Today, as Ramush Haradinaj, citizen of the Republic of Kosovo, I respond to the request for a questioning by Special Chambers in the Hague," he said in a Facebook post. There is no indictment against Haradinaj.

Haradinaj reiterated that EU-aspiring Kosovo is ready for a dialogue with Serbia until a legally binding agreement is reached, including mutual recognition of the existing borders.

"I have honestly protected our rights, yesterday, today and will always protect them," Haradinaj said.

Haradinaj traveled to the Hague with former parliament speaker Jakup Krasniqi and former KLA chief of staff Bislim Zyrapi as well as several other former KLA officers.
