The number of robots in use in Slovakia has nearly doubled in the last two years, according to Martin Jesny of the Industry4UM discussion platform, daily reported on December 19.

According to Industry4UM, robots are increasingly used in production, assembly processes, welding and painting. The leader in use of robotic devices used to be automobile industry, having 33% share of the industrial market. The same level was accomplished by electrical engineering sector and the most dynamic increase in use of robots was seen by the metal processing industry last year. A separate area that is also experiencing rapid development is service robots and robots used in logistics.

“Car producers have probably reached a kind of saturation level. And now it is expected whether their suppliers will move to the same point,” said Jesny.

Industry 4.0 inevitably needs infrastructure and tools to help it in its transformation. The government will support industry with its smart industry action plan that was approved in October this year.

"By implementing Smart Industry Action Plan, better conditions will be created for implementation of digitization and innovative solutions directly in industrial enterprises. As a result, competitiveness will increase both in industrial enterprises and in the Slovak industry,” said General Manager of the Business and Innovation Section of the Ministry of Economy of the Slovak Republic Miriam Letasi.

According to the International Robotics Federation, in 2015 there were 79 robots per 10,000 employees in Slovakia, up to 135 in 2016 and 151 in 2017, added Jesny.
