Slovakia's unemployment rate up to 5.04% in September

The unemployment rate in Slovakia was 5.04% in September, up by 0.07 percentage points (pp) month on month, according to the data from the Labour, Social Affairs and Family Centre (UPSVR) published on October 18.

According to the UPSVR general director Marian Valentovic, the unemployment rate decreased by 0.34pp year on year. The number of jobseekers immediately able to start work stood at 138,893 in September, up by 1,887 m/m, but down by 8,910 y/y.

Most of the regions posted monthly growth in their unemployment rates in September, with Zilina and Presov regions having the most significant growths of 0.15pp each; Bratislava region reported a decline of 0.03pp m/m.

The highest unemployment rate of 8.52% was recorded by Presov region, followed by Banska Bystrica and Kosice with unemployment rates above the national average of 5.04%, standing at 6.62% and 7.71% respectively.
