SEFE concerned as Russia targets gas storage tanks in Ukraine

Slovakian former solider Miroslav Marcek, the primary suspect in the murders of journalist Jan Kuciak and his fiancée Martina Kusnirova, allegedly slew the victims on the orders of a Russian citizen, Slovak TV JOJ reported as cited by daily Novinky.sk on June 5.
According to Marcek’s testimony given on April 11, he attempted to get details about the murder, but said he worked through a middleman, Zoltan Andrusko. “I knew that the target is called Kuciak, but Andrusko told me it is not his real name, therefore I did not search for the name,” Marcek told police.
During the investigation, Marcek claimed that Andrusko told him the job was ordered by someone from Russia who he knows and who speaks little Slovak. Andrusko allegedly added that the target was a journalist and his articles had made someone unhappy.
In April, Marcek confessed to shooting and killing Kuciak and Kusnirova during interrogation by the National Crime Agency (NAKA). The previous month the Special Prosecutor's Office announced that an investigator from NAKA’s Anti-crime Unit had charged an entrepreneur identified as Marian K. with ordering the murders.
As bne IntelliNews reported, Kuciak was killed at the end of February 2018 alongside his fiancée in his apartment. The murder sparked protests and a political crisis leading to the resignations of interior minister Robert Kalinak and prime minister Robert Fico, both of the ruling Smer-SD party.
