Stats from China on Central Asia gas imports show Uzbekistan resumed sending supplies in April

Uzbekistan supplied $40.47mn worth of natural gas to China in April this year, according to the data released by the Main Customs Administration of the People's Republic of China.

April is the first month of the year for which Chinese statistics record imports of the Uzbek blue fuel. There were no deliveries in January-March.

Kazakhstan also increased is pumping of gas to China in April. Revenue accrued was $119.5mn, compared to $29.9mn for the entire first quarter.

Turkmenistan is the biggest exporter of gas by pipeline to the Chinese market. It earned $3.42bn for gas exports piped to China in 4M23. Russia placed second with $1.76bn.

In 2022, Uzbekistan received $1.07bn from gas supplies exported to China, slightly less than Kazakhstan. Compared to the previous year, the Uzbek revenue amount expanded by around a third.
