Enka Insaat (ENKAI) on January 15 signed a £529mn contract with Essar Energy Transition (EET) Hydrogen to build a 350-MW low-carbon plant, according to statements from the parties.
The plant will be built as part of the HyNet industrial decarbonization cluster project at the Stanlow Refinery in Ellesmere Port in northwest England.
It will be the UK’s first large-scale, low-carbon hydrogen production plant. The output of the plant will be sold to industrial businesses in the region.
The construction works will be launched after EET issues a final investment decision following preliminary works. The project is to be completed within 39 months.
Essar Energy Transition (EET) Hydrogen, formerly Vertex Hydrogen Ltd., is aiming for the construction of 4 GW of hydrogen production capacity.
Enka, launched in 1957, is the largest construction company in Turkey. It has ranked among the ENR’s Top International Contractors since 1981.
The company is also the largest private electricity producer in Turkey.
At end-September, Enka’s backlog stood at $5.8bn with the two projects in the UK boasting an 8% share with $482mn.
