A court has appointed Turkey’s deposit insurance fund TMSF as trustee at Maydanoz Doner over a prosecution aimed at Gulenists conducted by public prosecutors in Antalya, the fund said on February 21.

On the same day, the interior ministry said that police forces detained 353 people, including shareholders of the fast food chain.

Istanbul-based Maydanoz Doner, launched in 2018, operates 410 doner restaurants in Turkey, Germany, Azerbaijan, Georgia and the Netherlands.

In July, Fatin Rustu Karakas, head of the TMSF, said that TMSF had seized a total of 1,371 companies over links to the Gulenist clan since the military coup attempt staged on July 15, 2016.

As of February 10, the TMSF held the management of 679 companies while it controlled stakes in a total of 73 companies in addition to the personal assets of 93 real persons.

Three companies are currently on sale.

In 2024, TMSF sold a Bosphorus mansion owned by Gulenist businessman Akin Ipek to Oyak Cimento (OYAKC) for a consideration of Turkish lira (TRY) 1.1bn ($34mn).

Since 2002, the Erdogan regime has been using the TMSF as a tool for wealth transfer.
