Boyko Borissov, the leader of Bulgaria’s Gerb party, has suggested that the government led by Gerb’s Rossen Zhelyazkov may only last until end-July as the four-party ruling coalition is losing its majority.

The ruling coalition had 126 MPs, which fell to 121 after the Constitutional Court confirmed electoral frauds and the election results were amended. Borissov claims the coalition has no majority as one of Gerb’s MPs is on sick leave until the end of April.

“I have said since the first day the majority is very fragile. In July the European Council should take a political decision on Bulgaria’s entry in the eurozone,” Borissov said.

He added that the government must try to last until then, shortening its expected mandate from one year to seven months.

"There is a prime minister who has to come [to parliament] and find himself a majority. Yesterday I told him that," Borissov told reporters, according to a video of his statement posted on his Facebook profile.

Borissov has already said he is just an ordinary MP, while his party is not part of a ruling majority but just a mandate holder.

Borissov also said that the ruling coalition cannot do anything without the support of Magnitsky-sanctioned politican Delyan Peevski and his DPS – New Beginning party. This opinion is not shared by the other three parties in the coalition – the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP), There Are Such People (ITN) and the other faction of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (DPS), DPS-DPS.

On March 19, Peevski said his participation in governing was inevitable despite the opinion of the rest of Bulgaria’s political parties.

"They have nowhere to go. Everyone shall be with me — whether now, or in the next parliament, because this is what the people have decided,” Peevski told reporters in parliament, according to a video of his statement posted on DPS – New Beginning’s Facebook page.

Peevski said he will back the budget for 2025 and “everything that is good for people”.

Earlier in March, Peevski said he will be everywhere and can become prime minister whenever he likes, also threatening those protesting against him.

“If you are scattered in the streets, I shall take people out,” he has said.

Peevski also said he can bring out the largest number of people onto the streets, and that he has the biggest resources.
