As South Korea awaits a final ruling on the impeachment of President Yoon Suk Yeol, the opposition Democratic Party of Korea is reported to be pushing to impeach acting-President Choi Sang-mok according to the Yonhap News Agency.
Choi has served as the acting president of the country since late December following impeachment moves against another acting president – Han Duck-soo – who was in the position for just two weeks following moves to unseat previous President Yoon Suk Yeol in the wake of a failed attempt to impose martial law on December 3.
It is understood that opposition members will likely file the impeachment motion against Choi in the afternoon of March 24 according to sources in South Korea. However, should the ruling against Han, now expected from the country’s Constitutional Court on the same day, precede this, and should Han be returned to power as acting-president, any impeachment moves against Choi would likely be dropped.
