Kosovo’s trade gap up 13.6% y/y in February

Kosovo posted a foreign trade gap of €451.4mn in February, rising by an annual 13.6%, the statistics agency, ASK, announced on March 24. Exports/imports coverage was 13%.

In the second month of the year, the value of exported goods amounted to €67.3mn, a decrease of 4.3% against the same month in 2024.

Meanwhile, the import value reached €518.6mn, up by 10.9% year-on-year.

According to data on the main export groups, 26.1% consist of base metals and related products, followed by plastics and rubber (15.1%), miscellaneous manufactured goods (10.8%), prepared foods, beverages and tobacco (10.6%) and textiles and textile products (6.2%).

For imports, mineral products account for 16.8%, while transport equipment and prepared foods, beverages and tobacco each make up 11.3%. Machinery, mechanical and electrical equipment represent 10.6%, and base metals and related products account for 9.7%.

Kosovo's exports to EU countries amounted to €24.5mn, or about 36.5% of total exports, showing a 12.1% increase. The main export partners in the EU were Germany (12.7%), the Netherlands (3.6%) and Italy (3.5%).

Imports from EU countries reached €229.1mn, or 44.2% of total imports, reflecting a 5.4% rise. The largest import sources were Germany (14.6%), Italy (6.4%) and Greece (3.3%).

Kosovo's exports to CEFTA countries totalled €28.9mn, or 43.0% of total exports, marking a 1.2% increase. The leading CEFTA export partners were Albania (15.6%), North Macedonia (15.0%), Serbia (5.7%) and Montenegro (5.2%).

Imports from CEFTA countries stood at €83.4mn, or 16.1% of total imports, increasing by 9.0%. The countries with the highest import shares were North Macedonia (7.0%), Albania (5.2%) and Serbia (2.8%).
